Did you know that 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute?
To put that horrifying fact into perspective, over 8.3 billion tons of plastic has been produced worldwide since the 1950s. Of all the plastic produced, 79% ends up in a landfill, where it kills 1.1 million seabirds every year.
And seabirds aren't the only victims of plastic pollution. The average person eats 70,000 micro-plastics each year. This poses the question - what can we do to reduce our plastic footprint?
At gogglesoc, we make all 'socs' (gogglesocs and visorsocs) from recycled plastic bottles. This is done by using Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate or rPET (you're welcome), a sustainable material.
rPET is made by shredding plastic bottles into flakes, melting those flakes into pellets and extruding the pellets into yarn, which is then used to knit the material used in our products.
1 plastic bottle makes 3 gogglesocs & 1 visorsoc.
It is important to us that all of our products help reduce waste headed for landfills. We all have a responsibility to reduce our footprint for a more sustainable future.
